A new metal roof installation in a house on a Chicago suburb is being hailed as an innovative way to address Chicago’s high cost of building.
The new laminate roof is a solution to the city’s costly building boom, which is pushing up the cost of materials for new construction.
The metal roof is built by the Chicago Metal Roofing Co. and is installed on the facade of the 2,800-square-foot home.
The company is currently the only supplier of roofing for Chicago, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
The roof is installed over a glass-encased laminate base.
The new roof is not a standard roof, which uses plastic and steel panels instead of metal.
But the Chicago company has made a significant leap in the past two years, with its innovative roofing technology that uses a unique adhesive to adhere the laminate to the concrete.
It can withstand the heat and pressure of construction.
“Our customers are coming to us and saying, ‘we want this roof, I want this laminate,’ ” said Scott Hager, senior vice president of sales for Chicago Metal.
“It’s a big deal for the neighborhood.”
Hager said Chicago Metal’s roofing, which costs $60,000 per roof, has a cost savings of about $60 per square foot.
He said it has been installed on more than 600 homes in Chicago and several other large cities, including Atlanta, Miami, Seattle and Miami Beach.
Hager told The Associated Press he’s seen similar roofs that cost between $300,000 and $400,000 installed in other large markets.
Chicago’s soaring cost of housing is the focus of an ongoing effort by President Donald Trump and other Democrats to pressure Republican-led lawmakers to support more affordable housing.
The effort is aimed at helping Chicagoans make ends meet while also helping reduce the city, which has one of the highest poverty rates in the country.
The Trump administration’s proposed tax increase and other spending proposals would make the city even more unaffordable for many Chicagoans.
But Hager said he doesn’t expect the government to raise the minimum wage and boost affordable housing funding to the point where a lot of the construction workers who are making the new roofing are able to afford it.
Hagers said Chicago would continue to see a lot more roofing installations in the coming years as the cost continues to increase and demand for new roofings continues to rise.
“We want to make sure that people are getting value for their money and that the roof is still available when they need it,” Hager told the AP.
“This is a great example of that.”
The Chicago Metal roofing company has also found success installing other types of roof, including metal roofs in Florida and Arizona.
The Associated, however, was unable to reach the Chicago office for comment.
The Associated Press reported that Chicago Metal, which makes the roofing and other metal products used in Chicago, is also one of three companies that have been awarded contracts to install solar panels on buildings.
The city is expected to make a final decision on its plans to install rooftop solar in the next few months.
